Getting through uncertain times!
I have several friends who are going through enormous uncertainty right now.
Some just got fired. A few others are on the verge of divorce. One lost his mother to cancer a few months ago. Another was seriously cheated by a business partner.
In these situations, most of us ask, "Why is this happening to me?"
Many of us, myself included, are familiar, with great personal difficulty.
We have gone through the emotions of disbelief, unfairness, anger, then deep discouragement.
In my case, through the help of a dear friend, I was able to realize that I was asking the wrong question.
If I ever wanted to get through this, instead of asking, "Why did this happen?" I had to start asking myself different questions.
When I asked myself the questions below, I found new perspective, I felt a new shift in my spirit, and most of all a new hopethat things would get better!
In his recent TED talk, Neil Pasrichasums it up with exacting clarity:
"There are times in life when you will be tossed down the well, with twists in your stomach and holes in your heart.
And when that bad news washes over you and the pain soaks in like a sponge, I hope you realize that there are alwaystwo choices.
1. You can swirl and twirl in gloom and doom forever.
2. You can choose, no matter how difficult, to move forward and take baby steps into the future."
If you are going through a difficult, uncertain time, here are five mind-shifting questions that may provide the perspective needed to not just get through it, but to become stronger!
1. What if this isn't the end, but a new beginning?
2. What does this experience make possible?
3. Where is the gift in this situation?
4. Looking back at this situation years from now, what is the priceless lesson that I will be able to tell my children about?
5. What's funny about this?
Asking these empowering questions will give you the answers that enable you to take those steps into the future!
History has shown over and over again, that those difficult "crucible moments" or the "dark nights of the soul" were precisely what propelled men and women to greatness!
If you are able to choose your focus, to choose to move on, then you are able to take control of your life, and there is nothing and nobody who can stop you!
